Applying BIM to Stage Machinery Design
Updated: 48 minutes ago
HANIL TNC worked with KCIM to adopt BIM for stage machinery design through Revit training and cloud-based consulting. The project established BIM data, Revit family, and LOD standards while protecting proprietary technology.
HANIL TNC
Customer Challenge
Founded in 1998, HANIL TNC specializes in stage equipment. The company needed to build in-house BIM capabilities to deliver new BIM-based projects in line with client requirements and prepare for mandatory BIM policies.
Project Goals
The immediate challenge was to develop BIM data and produce drawings in a Common Data Environment (CDE), as required by the client. The broader goal was to embed BIM into existing workflows while creating BIM data in a way that would protect proprietary technology.
Solution
To make better use of Autodesk Revit and deliver BIM projects smoothly, HANIL TNC received introductory Revit training from KCIM, along with consulting on developing BIM data in a cloud-based CDE. Working with KCIM on the project, the company received solutions to BIM issues and consulting to integrate BIM into its existing workflows. It also established optimal methods for creating Revit families and Level of Development (LOD) standards to prevent disclosure of proprietary stage machinery technology.
Business Outcome
Through KCIM’s consulting, HANIL TNC established internal standards for developing BIM data. Cloud-based collaboration helped the team meet a tight project schedule, successfully deliver BIM data, and complete the consulting program for building in-house capabilities. The results were strong enough that subcontractors from other trades on the project asked HANIL TNC about establishing their own BIM standards.
Conclusion
Mandatory BIM policies and the increasing use of BIM in architectural design are driving a greater need for specialist subcontractors in every trade to adopt BIM. This project demonstrated that remote consulting in a CDE can help companies build in-house BIM capabilities in a short time.
