Our expertise is all in a single drawing. Can we adopt BIM without worrying about leaks?

Hanil T&C adopted BIM with KCIM through Revit training, cloud-based CDE consulting and support on a live project. Tailored Family creation methods and LOD standards limited model information to project needs while addressing concerns about disclosing core stage machinery technology.

Hanil T&C, a specialist in stage equipment, faced a challenge. Clients were requiring BIM on an increasing number of projects, and mandatory BIM policies were about to take effect. The issue went beyond simply “learning a BIM tool.” The real challenge was how to handle 3D models containing its core stage machinery technology securely while making BIM a practical part of everyday work.

Here is how Hanil T&C and KCIM worked together to address these concerns and adopt BIM.

Why did a stage equipment specialist hesitate to adopt BIM?

Founded in 1998, Hanil T&C is a specialist with a long track record in stage equipment. But its industry was changing rapidly. Clients began making BIM adoption a prerequisite for each new project, while government policies mandating BIM were becoming a reality.

What Hanil T&C needed was not a one-off response to a project, but the ability to adopt BIM within the company itself. In other words, the real goal was to go beyond completing this project successfully and build the capability to keep using BIM independently.

The real goal was not “delivery,” but “independence through BIM adoption”

The project’s immediate task was clear: develop BIM data in the CDE (Common Data Environment) required by the client and turn it into completed drawings.

But Hanil T&C’s goal went a step further.

“Integrate BIM adoption naturally into existing workflows.” “Consider security from the data development stage to prevent core stage machinery technology from being disclosed externally.”

In other words, the true goal was not “adopting BIM for this project,” but “establishing a BIM framework that could continue to be used securely.”

A three-step BIM adoption roadmap developed with KCIM

To achieve this “real goal,” Hanil T&C worked with KCIM to adopt BIM step by step.

First, they strengthened the fundamentals. Basic training to improve Revit proficiency helped the team become familiar with BIM tools.

Second, they received data development consulting in a cloud-based CDE. The key was to establish an environment that enabled smooth remote collaboration, even within a short project schedule.

Third, they carried out an actual project together while receiving consulting to embed BIM internally, the final stage of adoption. As BIM issues arose during the project, they resolved them and jointly designed ways to apply BIM to existing workflows.

This process also revealed a way to address Hanil T&C’s greatest concern: technology leakage. Together, they established an optimal Family creation method for securely handling core stage machinery technology, along with LOD (Level of Development) standards that included only the information needed for the project’s purpose.

Beyond the project: BIM adoption standards became a company asset

The consulting outcomes were more than project deliverables. Through this project, Hanil T&C established internal BIM adoption standards it could continue to use in the future.

In particular, cloud-based collaboration helped overcome the constraints of a tight project schedule, enabling the successful completion of both BIM data delivery and consulting to embed BIM capabilities internally.

These results also prompted an unexpected response. Partners responsible for other trades on the same project saw how Hanil T&C had established its BIM adoption standards and reached out with inquiries. This was further evidence of the quality of the results.

You can start adopting BIM sooner than you think

As mandatory BIM policies expand and BIM takes hold across architectural design, adopting BIM is becoming a necessity rather than an option for specialist partners in every trade.

Hanil T&C’s experience demonstrates an important point: remote consulting through a CDE can make practical BIM adoption possible even within a short time. Sensitive, industry-specific issues such as concerns about technology leakage can even become opportunities when they are addressed together from the outset.
